Tell Us About Yourself
In massage therapy we have several things that we need to consider. We must train, we must earn our license, we must have a gift to share with our clients, and we must be able to attract clients to sustain us. The odds are that if you are opening your own massage therapy practice, that you have studied hard, worked tirelessly, and been employed by another studio for at least some period of time. This time that you have spent working with another practice may seem like a bad dream, but remember, this is when you did your most critical learning. You should think of it as an apprenticeship, as it is not likely that you would have received such excellent training in how to (or how not to) operate your own studio in any other way.
You need to do several things to prepare for your own massage therapy business. You will want to get massage therapy business cards. Seeing as we are therapists, and not marketing gurus, you should be told that this is not the only piece of paper paraphernalia that you will find useful. A little piece of paper can turn a one-time visit into a lifetime customer. The magic word is: thank you postcards. This may seem simple enough, but most of us don't think of these things alone. Now you may be thinking of other direct advertising you may want to use other than your massage business card. You may think that you want massage gift certificates, happy birthday postcards, and massage postcards. These are all excellent ideas, and you can find more ideas as well with the only company that I have found to be providing printed materials that are customized for this field, WaterColorsCards. WaterColor’s cards are ideal to spread the word about the services you are offering.
Spreading the word will eventually become your biggest concern. It doesn't matter how good of a massage therapist you are if you are not making new contacts and gaining a client base. You've got to work to eat, and if you do not have many appointments today, and you do not have any appointments tomorrow, you may be back to eating ramen noodles again. Be sure to bring your massage business cards with you wherever you go. You can leave any of your promotional cards on the bulletin boards at the grocery store and fitness gym. When you introduce yourself, make sure to mention that you have your own massage therapy practice and give them your card. You never know if you're talking to someone that could bring in your next client for you. Believe it or not, just because you've never worked for someone, it doesn't mean that they won't recommend you. There are lots of people in this world who's life's ambition is to know people so that they always have a name to drop. Remember that nobody will know who you are, or what you can do for them, if you don't seize every moment to tell them about yourself.
