The term acupuncture literally means “needle prick”. It is a traditional Chinese therapy known to promote health and proper body functioning. Although acupuncture has many health benefits, it is most associated with pain relief. People who suffer pain resort to the pain killing power of acupuncture.
Acupuncture started in China and has been practiced there for over 2000 years. Today, acupuncture has attracted a global market. This therapy is already practiced in almost all parts of the world. There are also a number of acupuncture therapy variations now. Aside from the traditional needle pricks, acupuncturists now used magnets, electrical stimulations, and even laser.
Acupuncture is a therapy that aims to relieve pains, treat body disorders, promote proper body functioning and alleviate people from emotional stress. This therapy covers the entire body. Researches prove to its effectiveness and safety. When performed by a qualified acupuncturist, acupuncture treatment is harmless and has little or no side effects at all.
How Acupuncture Works
The Chinese believe that in order to have a healthy body, there must be a free flow of chi’i or energy. The energy flows through the so-called meridians. When the energy is blocked and can’t flow freely, it causes imbalance on the body, therefore, the person feels sick. In order to feel well, the ch’i should be unblocked. They do this through acupuncture.
There are around 500 acupuncture points in the human body. These acupuncture points are the target of the needles. They have different effects on the body. For pain for instance, the needles pricked in certain acupuncture points can activate the body’s natural pain killing chemicals. This helps relieve the person from the pains he is experiencing.
Acupuncture’s Popularity
The popularity of acupuncture can be credited to a number of reasons. First, its effectiveness. People who have been satisfied with the therapy continue to spread words about it. Second, its old existence. It has been practiced for so many years and people get used to it. Third, its unique therapy method. People get curious as to how the therapy is done.
There is no doubt acupuncture therapy has become so popular. In Ireland, acupuncture therapy is also made available. Aside from Ireland, acupuncture is already introduced to other European countries, thus, making it a global therapy. There is no harm in trying acupuncture as long as you go to a qualified acupuncturist. Although there may be some who still doubts the effectiveness of this therapy, it doesn’t change the fact that there are millions of patients who testify to the health benefits of acupuncture.
