Marketing innovatively using E-mail Marketing
Email marketing is fast and innovative. It costs much lesser than normal ad services. But it does have its disadvantages. How can companies overcome these and use advantages to the fullest? Read on.
Using electronic mail or e-mail for sending fundraising or commercial notifications to a large number of people with their consent is termed as email-marketing. It is used to attract potential customers and keep existing customers. It encourages customer loyalty and helps the company gain customers. Also companies can send mail through its mailing list for other companies that are looking to attract customers.
There are myriad reasons for companies preferring email over traditional ad services. The primary reason is that it enables distribution of information to a large number of people at a very low cost since it is does not consume paper. It is way cheaper than normal mail and ads. This method is also more spontaneous since email takes only seconds to reach and people check their mail throughout the day. Also messages that are interlinked can be sent in the form of follow up messages to the original ones. So interaction of messages is possible.
The biggest possible disadvantage of this innovative marketing strategy is spam. A lot of companies send unwanted junk mail under the pretext of marketing. Because of this, most people delete even some legitimate email because of being unable to differentiate it from spam. The large volume of spam floating in the internet has led to the development of spam filters. But these filters too often delete genuine mail marking them as spam.
Compliance with anti-spam laws is a must for any company that wishes to use email marketing for promoting its products. Sometimes, sites that follow these laws too get blacklisted by the internet administrators if they are found sending spam.
In order to overcome people who misuse this service, the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 enforced every marketer wanting to mass-mail people furnish details including physical address, return email address, options for unsubscribing with ease using just a single click etc. This will ensure that mail from compliant companies doesn’t irritate the customer and also a customer can come out of the list at the click of the mouse.
In order to set right the disadvantages of this, companies have devised the opt-in mailing service where only people in the mailing list are mailed, i.e. the company sends alerts when a new product is released or an event comes up only to people who have consented to receive the newsletters while purchasing the product. E-mail software was developed with the sole motive of making this for of marketing easier. It can be used for bulk-mailing mailing list subscribers. One can send promotional material, newsletters and other announcements to a number of people who have subscribed for the mailing list with ease, using this software. Sadly, this software is also misused for spending spam mails that irritate users.
Tracking opening of specific ads, importing customer lists, handling bounce-backs and automatic unsubscribing are the various applications of this software.
Apart from this, this software is used by many since it increases the professional look of business ads.
