For most adult men and women, finding true love can be something both highly sought after and vastly elusive. In the mind of many people it’s akin to the dream of making a million dollars or more. Monetary gain or obtaining riches, along with power, are longings as old as time in the human scheme of things. Money, or the getting of money, has a tangible aspect to it in that it is achievable; particularly if one garners popularity (through beauty or charisma), exhibits popular traits or actions, or can cater to the popular and much sought after needs of others. Someone once said to me, “Getting money is easy. I’ve done it. I’ve got money. Striking it rich in love is another thing again. Love is something deceptively simple to want, yet excruciatingly difficult to find and hold on to. I’ve yet to find the mother load. I don’t know how or where to begin digging.”
As far as longings go, Love (and Happiness) is at the very least on a par with Wealth and Fame as being an important, even fundamental, yearning. In the same way the attainment of monetary wealth is achievable due to its tangible nature, the attainment of love is something that, more often than not, keeps slipping through one’s fingers time and time again. It seems that the harder one grasps at it the more readily it gets away from us. To the uninitiated, it’s almost as if one expects to grab hold of it in the same way as a handful of cash.
