Do I Have a Problem?
If you find yourself wondering if you have a sexual problem, then the odds are probably in your favor that you do. Millions of people struggle with addiction, and not all addiction is drug or alcohol related. Addiction can be related to gambling and other compulsive activities, including sex.

The release of chemicals in the brain when sexually stimulated, and upon achieving orgasm, induces a sense of well being, albeit a short one. Some people use other drugs to make their lives more manageable, but the sex addict uses a drug that their own bodies produce.
Have you found yourself turning to internet porn or putting on a movie to masturbate rather than talking to someone you can trust or looking for a solution when your life becomes complicated? Maybe you are a Christian or a partner in marriage that has tried to turn away from such stimuli only to find yourself running back to it when a minor crisis occurs? The fact of the matter is that sex addiction, much like any addiction, is not one that is easy to just give up and break yourself off, “cold turkey” style. These are rituals that you have developed throughout the years, and since your coping mechanism is exactly what you are trying to rally against, it is nearly impossible for you to manage the stress in a healthy way, in fact it my simply become displaced and attached to some other unhealthy manifestation, such as alcohol or drugs. When you have realized that sexual addiction has manifested itself in your life, then what you need to do is seek the advice of a professional. Getting help from a licensed therapist will speed your recovery. There is a counsellor out there for you to aid in your healing and save your relationship, or even your family.
When you take the step toward finding help, either through therapy or a related treatment, your healing has begun. If you follow through with a program that is comfortable for you, you will witness a dramatic improvement in your life and the lives of your loved ones. Anyone that has ever experienced the power of sexual compulsions governing their lives will tell you that it is a difficult action to take, because it is hard to imagine finding comfort without the comforting feeling that these exercises bring you, but in time you will be a happier and healthier person for yourself and your loved ones for it.
