With so many different styles of bouquet to choose from, it can be hard to know what will suit you. So what are the options and what should you choose?
Choose the wedding flowers for your bouquet on the basis of what colour and type you like. However, try not to get your heart set on one particular flower, as it might not be in season at the time of your wedding. You can always have your flowers imported from another state or overseas but this will be a costly process. Also, take into account your body shape and size when deciding on your bouquet style. Taller brides can chose longer, larger styles and shorter brides should go for a smaller bouquet.
Posy bouquet
A small, round-shaped bouquet, usually comprised of smaller flowers, which can be wired or tied together. This style of wedding flower arrangements will create a classic look. A great option if you don’t want to detract too much from your gown.
Tear-drop bouquet
A very traditional style of bouquet, suited to the more formal bride. Made up of a standard posy-style, which trails down toward the floor to create a tear-drop shape. This suits a smaller bouquet – anything longer than 35cm is difficult to work into this tight design. If you want a longer style, perhaps opt for the cascade bouquet.
Cascade bouquet
This is often called a multiple-trail bouquet because the wedding flowers cascade down from the top in numerous trails. This style is less structured than the tear-drop bouquet and often a lot longer. It’s well-suited to a garden or beach wedding and looks fabulous with orchids or lilies.
Princess bouquet
Very similar to the cascade bouquet, except much larger. Made up of numerous cascading trails of flowers, which is usually extra wide at the top. Suits both slimline and full gowns. Recommended for extravagant, traditional brides.
Trail Bouquet
Similar in size to the princess bouquet, using a cluster of flowers and a trail of foliage. Extra flowers can be scattered throughout the trail. This style of bouquet is generally less expensive than the princess bouquet, even though it is the same size. This style suits both slim and full gowns and is recommended for outdoor weddings.
Arm spray
This is a less formal style, which is held along the forearm or in the hand, pointing along the length of your skirt. It uses long-stem flowers and can be softened using foliage. It is a great style for non-traditional brides, who want something more unusual than the classic posy. Slimline gowns work best with arm sprays, as they are less formal.
Floral boa
For something a little different, why not wear a floral boa around your shoulders as an alternative to the traditional bouquet? Floral boas look great at less formal weddings and only suit slim gowns. They also suit second-time brides.
