Your local bait shop often has the latest fishing reports and fishing information to help you catch the most number of fish possible. In recent years, fishermen have been turning to the internet for the most up to date information about the area they are fishing in before heading out for the day.
With fishing forums, you can even talk with other fishermen to get the most accurate fishing information from a variety of areas. These can be an ideal tool to help you find the best spots to fish and possibly even a new fishing partner.
However, there are several other places to look for fishing information that will give you an idea if upcoming fishing trips will be fruitful or not. One key factor in fishing is the current weather system and what it is preparing to do. Often when the weather changes, particularly when a cold front comes in, the fishing improves significantly.
If your fishing trips take you to a lake, the water level in the lake can affect the mood of the fish and actually change their behavior patterns. If the season in which a species of fish mates is unseasonably warm or cold, or if the lake level is too low, they will not spawn, or mate, at the normal time and some fish may not spawn at all.
Not only does this detract from the pace of fishing, it also has the potential to hurt the fish population in that lake. You should be able to find lake levels, as well as water temperatures, fairly easily on the internet. The lake may have a website, the conservation department may keep track, or it may be posted in local fishing forums.
Another factor that many people claim has an impact on fishing trips, as well as the behavior of other animals, is the current moon phase. It is said that certain moon phases do something to stimulate animals and people, and can make fish more aggressive. Although no one is quite sure why, many fishing reports back up this theory.
However, different species don't all respond the same to moon phases. For some fish, like trout, a full moon means that there is enough light to feed at night, so when your line hits the water at dawn, they're full from feeding all night.
Migratory fish will be more active when the moon is positioned so that the tide rises. How moon phases affect a species of fish depends largely on that fish's behavioral characteristics and maturity.
To get the most accurate fishing information, fishermen can use a variety of sources. Many factors contribute to ideal fishing conditions, including lake levels, moon phases, and water temperature for your particular area.
Experiencing the specific region for yourself, though, is no match for finding fishing information from any of the sources available.
