One of the worst experiences any
customer of a hotel has is staying at the hotel when it is being renovated.
Can I check in advance if the hotel
is being renovated?
Moat hotels will not let your
travel agent know that the hotel is being renovated. Hotels are commercial
enterprises that need to have a minimum number of rooms occupied to survive.
Will the hotel give me a room away
from the noise of construction?
The hotel will promise to give you
a room away from the renovation site. You are likely to know about the
renovation only when you arrive at the hotel and this will mean that if the
hotel is fully booked you will be expected to put up with the noise. Worse
still some hotels will give you a room away from the renovation site but you
may find that you are near the work entrance. You may have to suffer the coming
and going of workers, their equipment, even forklifts.
Does it matter if the hotel
promises to keep the renovation hours only at daytime?
It may matter. If you get sick
during the day and have to stay hotel bound, the continuous construction noise
will only serve to make you worse.
Why don’t hotels close their
enterprise when renovating their building?
Hotels are competitive enterprises.
Their renovation programs are carried out to better themselves as against other
hotels. For the same reason, they believe occupancy is money. Unoccupied rooms
mean lower profits. Hotels therefore normally renovate floor by floor and take
it for granted that construction noise is somehow part of the customer’s hotel
experience.
All hotel guests wish that they can
beware of repairs but it is the unfortunate truth that by the time the guests
know about the repair it is too late.
